How Bowl Seating Works

By Joe Karlgaard November 5, 2012, 11:57 pm

Dear Stanford Fan,

The Cardinal football team is bowl eligible for the fourth consecutive year! As we begin the ticket transaction and seat allocation process for our fans, we wanted to alert you to a few important details.

Each bowl game allocates a fixed number of tickets in pre-determined locations to both of the participating institutions. Depending on the bowl, prime seat locations (such as seats at midfield or in a club level) may or may not be part of the ticket package offered to Stanford. In addition to providing tickets for the two participating institutions, bowl organizations are also committed to making tickets available for annual subscribers in the local community and corporate sponsors.

Stanford allocates its bowl tickets based on the degree to which each ticket purchaser engages with the university. Financial support for Stanford and the athletic program is critical to helping the Cardinal compete for bowl berths and win championships. Other forms of engagement, such as season ticket purchases and volunteer service, are also important.

In most years there is more demand for certain seat locations at the bowl game than we can fulfill from our allocation of tickets. Accordingly, given the limitations of our allocation, we use a fair and established system for assigning seats that considers engagement with Stanford during the seating process. We are extremely grateful for all of the support that Stanford Athletics receives, and we wish to recognize this during an event that is made possible in large part because of alumni and fan engagement.

Similar to previous years, seat locations within Stanford’s bowl ticket allotment will be assigned according to the customer’s level of engagement with the university and stated price level preference (subject to availability). The following criteria, not necessarily in this order, will determine your seat location:

-Annual gifts to the Buck/Cardinal Club

-Years of season ticket purchases in all season-ticketed sports

-Total lifetime giving to Stanford Athletics

-Total lifetime giving to Stanford University

-Bequest intentions to Stanford Athletics

-Volunteer service on an athletic or university board

-Stanford alumnus/a

-Former Stanford scholar-athlete

If you have purchased tickets from Stanford before, it is important that you log in using your existing ticket account information so we can give you proper credit for your engagement with Stanford during the seating process. If you need help retrieving your login information, please call 1-800-STANFORD to speak with a Stanford Athletics representative.

To make a gift or to increase your level of engagement, please visit www.buckcardinal.com or call (650) 723-1008.

Thank you for your continued support of Stanford Athletics. Our scholar-athletes could not do it without you.

Best regards,

Joe Karlgaard ‘96
