Adversity Makes Gerhart Stronger

Teagan Gerhart, ’13, overcame a lot of personal adversity before enrolling at Stanford, and that has helped her become one of the best softball pitchers in school history. Gerhart was selected NFCA First Team All-West Region and First Team All-Pac-12 as a sophomore, and was Second Team All-West Region and Honorable Mention All-Pac-12 as a freshman and junior. She registered 32 wins last year, ninth nationally and fourth-most in Stanford history, and her 261.2 innings pitched were the third-most in the Pac-12 and fourth-most in school history.

By The Cardinal Channel, Mark Soltau March 21, 2013, 10:36 pm

Stanford All-American Chiney Ogwumike is talented on and off the court. The junior forward from Cypress, Texas, helped lead the Cardinal women’s basketball team to a share of its 13th-consecutive Pac-12 Conference regular-season championship and its 7th-straight Pac-12 Tournament title. The only player in the country to rank in the top six in scoring (22.4), rebounding (13.1), field goal percentage (57.4), and double-doubles (26), Ogwumike was selected Pac-12 Player of the Year and Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year. A strong candidate for national player of the year, she is majoring in international relations with specializations in African and comparative international governance. She is passionate about helping underserved African youth through athletics, education, and spiritual programs, and will visit Nigeria this summer.
